I had ME2 installed through Origin on my previous laptop (ASUS X555LN, Core i5, NVidia GeForce 840M) and it worked perfectly.
Bought myself a new laptop recently (Acer Predator Helios 300) and now ME2 doesn't want to work anymore.
It loads the title screen and it crashes after I "press any key to continue". It just says ME2 "has stopped working. a problem has caused the program to stop working".
I've tried the usually stuff: different compatibility modes, ran both ME2 and Origin as administrator, and separately, also re-installed both Origin and ME2 - no luck.
Currently, I'm running Windows 10 Home, version 1703 and ME1 and ME3 both work, no problem. It's just ME2 that crashes.
I'm also missing the files EACore.dll and EACoreServer.exe from my Binaries folder as well as EAAccessInstaller.exe - those files have been mentioned on other forums as well.
Any suggestions other than what has already been suggested on previous posts or other forums?

Go to your "Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2" folder and move the "Save" and the "BioGame" folder to your desktop > test.

I should have posted this topic sooner. Thank you. Thank you very much! It works and loads the main menu after I "press any button to continue".
So, I'm guessing that either my saves are corrupt, or something in the BioGame folder that's responsible for crashing the game?

Exactly.
My money is on a save game, so put the "BioGame" folder back first.
If it still works you can test the save games. Unfortunately the only way to do that is by trial and error.

Understood - thanks again so much!
Now I get to test the full capacity of my new system :eahigh_file:
Will trial and error and see what works. Just very happy and relieved that it works now, thanks to you.
