I can't import my Mass Effect 1 characters to Mass Effect 2 (PC) [ Edited ]

I want to play the characters I made from the 1st game on the other games but for some reason its not detecting them. It gives me this: "Mass Effect 1 save game not found. Please run the configuration utility to copy your save games to the appropriate location." Can anyone tell me what that means? How do I do that? Or are there any other ways to fix this problem? I would really like to play my games all the way through without starting over. I don't have any problem importing my ME2 characters to ME3. Please help!
