Sorry, I over read second to last post.
Host file problems are rare, there are much more likely triggers for this problem.
Try this in Order. Test after any point.
If that not helps here is a EA connection troubleshooting guide.

Just hit Connect (to the right of the laptop) and log in manually.

I have no Origins folder period. I did everything you said and it kept coming back not found so then I sent to your next step anyway and although I now see some of my games in there, still no Origins folder.

I'm playing on console and just encountered the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

On console ? Well, this confirms once again that this is some kind of problem on the part of EA servers. Not our problems.
As with accounts for Mass Effects: Andromeda - only EA's side problems.

From what ive found out, EA shut down the Cerberus network..... which is a * move when trying to activate DLC nowadays. So im not sure how its going to work but yea, EA moved on leaving ME servers in the dark. Just wish the unlinked the dlc from cerberus network first

same here, bought the game over steam Digital Deluxe Edition with all DLCs available.
downloaded the DLCs via Origin (website) and installed them successfully.
Now Im stuck at the "communication with the mass effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out"
any hope this is getting fixed?

Your Steam account is linked to your Origin account?
Do you use a VPN?

thanks for your reply Holger. I actually got it fixed already after doing live chat to some really friendly and supportive guy from EA help.
To anybody getting the game via steam (since steam doesnt tell you so):
You will have to redeem your game codes (3 in my case) via Origin-service. You dont have to install the Origin-Launcher, just using the Origin Website is enough. Of course you will have to use the same login data you are using in the game.
After that for me the error-message disappeared.
