It's about the "host" file.

I you didn't already opened it you need to open that file with an Editor (Windows Editor, Notepad++) running in Administrator mode, otherwise you cant edit that file.

This is a normal Host file.

If there is noting more in there it is not the reason for the problem in your case.

@lux666fere

You don't need to. The Game and the DLCs will work just fine without login in.

Just click the error massage away and start the game.

i hope [edit: profanity removed] dont actually think this is an actual solution.

System32 deletes your entire hardrive and essentially bricks your computer so it can never be used again. Please remove this as an accepted solution.

@TheCptMacMillan

I edited your post, please refrain from insults.

Furthermore, the "System32" folder is just mentioned because it is in the path of the Windows "Host" file, nothing is going deleted if you access it.

@DeadlyTurian5289

Are you on a University or other non private network?

Do you use special characters in your credentials?

The password and the email might be case sensitive.

Restart your router.

If that not helps, shut down your Windows firewall and disable the real-time scanner of your antivirus software.. (just for testing purpose, don't forget to activate the firewall and the antivirus software later on.)

Should it work after you disabled the firewall, here is a description how to allow a program to communicate through the firewall.

This ports must be open on your Router:

Origin Ports
TCP: 80; 443; 9960-9969; 1024-1124; 3216; 18000; 18120; 18060; 27900; 28910; 29900
UDP: 1024-1124; 18000; 29900

Clearing your DNS cache. or testing a google DNS could also help.

If that not helps here is a EA connection troubleshooting guide.

No problem, but are you on a University network?

Do you use special characters in your credentials?

Clearing the Origin cache could also help.

All settings in Origin (only in Origin not in the games) are back to default settings after this.)

    - close Origin completely. (right click on the Origin symbol in the task bar > close)
    - Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    - Type or copy  "%ProgramData%/Origin" (without quotes) > hit ENTER
    - Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the "LocalContent" folder. (The "LocalContent" folder must remain untouched.)
    - Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    - Type or copy "%AppData%" (without quotes)  > hit ENTER
    - Now your Windows explorer should have brought you to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Roaming" folder
    - Delate the "Origin"  folder inside the "Roaming" folder
    - In the address bar of your Windows explorer click on the word "AppData".
    - Open the "Local" folder
    - Delate the "Origin"  folder inside the  "Local" folder
    - Restart your PC. > test

Re: Communication with the mass effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out

I JUST tried this, what I did was to edit the file and deleted every line AFTER these ones:

"# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost"

AND IT WORKED!!! just to be safe, I made a backup of the file just in case...

I hope it helps!
