Cannot scan for minerals---Never mind...got ME2 mixed up with ME3. [ Edited ]

I purchased a very robust gaming PC earlier this year;  Intel Core i74820k CPU @ 3.70GHz,  NVDIA GeForce GTX 770.  I'm running Windows 8.1.  The game was installed from two discs.  I have played ME2 multiple times on previous PCs.  Yesterday I installed it on this new PC for the first time, and installed all of the DLC available except tor the multiplayer mods.  The game looks better than it ever has and runs without a glitch, EXCEPT that when I enter a system and try to scan for minerals/resources, nothing happens.  It's the right mouse button right?  I will look for a patch, but does anyone know how to fix this?  I restarted the computer three times, including one time where I completely shut the system down for a minute then restarted.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks
