Hello, after I upgraded to windows 10 I didn't try to play ME2 for a while but when I did it kept asking for me to enter the key code and would then shut down. I uninstalled the game but when I try to re-install it, near the end of the process, I get the message "install failed, permission denied on a data file". no other information given. If anyone has any suggestions it would appreciated.

Steam or Origin?

I have the DVD's. I do have steam and origin accounts but I don't think my ME2 is running under either of them.

The disk is clean and in good shape?
Then right click on the installation exe > "troubleshooting compatibility issues"
If that not helps, run the exe as Administrator

the discs look ok. Same result after trying the install under various compatibility options as well as running as administrator.

Ok, delete the Original ME2 Folder in your "Program Files (x86)" folder and the Mass Effect 2 Folder from your Documents folder (Make a Backup of the last one, it holds your old save files) A few files will have read only attribute, so you need to rename them or delete them using the super admin account or a CMD running in Administrator mode.

Thanks Holger, I ended up installing onto my back up hard drive. I think it had XP or vista installed on it initially. It took everything, DLC's and my saves and the game is running fine. Thanks for the help
