Unlocking max level on an alternate save

I was wondering if the Medal of Honor achievement would unlock max level on all existing save files or if you need to start a New Game or New Game Plus before any character can level past 50.

It will unlock the levels 51 -60 for all characters, but only if you achieve it by beating the game, if you console the achievement it won't unlock the additional levels.
