Mass effect 1 pc wont let me control anything when the game starts

In mass effect 1 My game will start no problem, I can navigate the menus, and I can get right into the game. That is when the problems start. Every time I get into the game I can move around for 1 second, then stops. I cant do anything for about 1 minute, then it does it again. After the 3rd stop everything starts to work but never quite gets there, I get mouse and keyboard latency, My pistol will not stop shooting, everything is just weird. Help me please.

please I'm replying to my own post here! I just wanted to say I played through the game once, then uninstalled it, this happened after I reinstalled on my 2nd play through.

Guys, gals, seems it's not a fix (so don't 'accept solution') but disabling Origin in game seems to once again recognise mouse input in-game. The bug is with the Origin client. I have no idea if this then prevents you exporting profiles between ME1 and ME2.

Workaround: Right click your game icon in Origin, click 'Game Properties', tick the 'disable Origin overlay for this game' checkbox
