Mass Effect One Will Not Run

I purchased the Mass Effect Triology for download.  I have downloaded Mass Effect and I am attempting to play it.  When I launch the game, "snyching with cloud" pops up, goes to 100%, then a few seconds later pops up again and goes to 100%, and then nothing happens.  I have run the repair installation utility by right clicking on the game in My Games inventory and that has not helped.  What can I do to fix this?

Read through one or more of the similar topics already posted here and try the various solutions (starting with using a desktop shortcut to launch the game, setting it to "Windows XP (SP3) Compatibility Mode") and going from there.
