EDIT: Hey jarrusatula, since you got the game working now would you mind posting a log of yourself loading a save at one of the planets in question and successfully landing on it, please? Just load up the game already at the planet, land, save and exit. I'd be real interested to see the comparison, it might help identify which warnings in the log are contributing to the actual error Wink

 

EDIT: Regarding the regional idea... I pipe my connection through a VPN ('cause what I do on the net is my own damn business, tyvm. #Canadian) and so far I've DLed and installed the game "from" North America and the UK. I don't know if Origin is using my location given when I registered but if not then that pretty much rules out those two zones.

My log from last night is way too long to post, I had a good 4 hours of problem free gaming before I hit the error trying to land on Solcrum. Once again I saw a lot of failures to load or identify assets for the game. Some were containers, others were mobs as far as I could tell, but they happened far enough back that some of them couldn't actually have had anything to do with this particular issue I would think.

hm - that's odd, right?

However, the Steam version does not have the 2 DLCs "Bring Down the Sky" and "Pinnacle Station" installed.

Just to clarify what did or did not work with the same builds:

- old savegame without DLCs + Origin version:   Crash

- old savegame without DLCs + Steam version:   OK

- new savegame with DLCs + Origin version:   Crash

- new savegame with DLCs + Steam version:   not possible to test since I can't activate/install DLCs in Steam version

This seems to only affect side missions, I played the game through travelling to every planet on the main story line.

 

Is there something that's broken in the story line ? I could be wrong but doesn't the crash happen at the same time you should see your team selection screen ?

 

I'm just guessing here, I contacted EA on chat and it was no help at all, I have to send hardware specs and DX files, I doub't very much it has anything to do with my hardware that I can't do side missions...

 

Very disappointing...

 

Update - I purchased Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Steam for $7, but it doesn't appear that Origin/EA will allow refunds for Mass Effect 1 ?? I'm not too interested in policy here, the game is broken for whatever reason from time of purchase and I have purchased it somewhere else. How do I go about getting my refund ?

@ndr114za in steam you needed to restart the game, or the origin savegame worked? Because i think my origin saved game with dlc installed won't work in steam version game without dlc installed.

About ea chat support, well, after they consulted a superior department,  they suggested me to buy "revouninstaller" and uninstall/reinstall the game, for an issue related to "key not valid" after i Updated Mass effect to version 1.02 :D

This is one of the error messages I get from entering any mission planet associated with Admiral Hackett:

having the same problem, game is crashing at the loading screen after the dialog when going to land in the hawking eta cluster.

I was just able to land on Ontarom after being given a pop-up mission from Admiral Hackett when I entered the Newton system, might just be a coincidence that the other bugged planets are associated with him.
