Black Box textures

Greetings,

I have played Mass effect 1 before on my system, through steam, which had no issues whatsoever. Recently I bought the Trilogy so I could have the third installment of the game together with the DLC for Me 1 and 2.

Whilst enjoying mass effect one I get to Noveria, so far everything is going fine. I am playing on ultra high resolution, shadows on etc. etc. Then I reached peak 15. All textures became Black Boxes, What the fudge?!

To start: All my drivers are up to date, my pc meets the minimum requirements (8gb of ram, Geforce 560 GTX, Windows 7 64x bit and a AMD FX-6100 FX Hexacore).

EDIT: I have also installed the files from DX 9 that can sometimes be missing with DX 10 / 11

Now I did some personal research. Turns out this is a issue many people have and that you have to remove certain shaders, either manually or through the mass effect configuration utility. This did not work. I tried lowering / changing different graphics settings, this also did not work. AFter a long search I found out that if you open the console panel (you have to add something to a config file for this) you can enter a command (viewmode unlit) and it should fix it. This solved the issue but made the game look like sh*t, and that is lightly speaking.

My question is, is there any other fix or can I / we expect a fix for this? I heard rumours that this happens on Ilos as well and I would not like to play this game with the previous stated command because the game looks terrible that way. THe other rumour I heard is that it is because of my AMD processor, now I can understand that can be an issue but will it get fixed?

Thanks in advance.

This Bug is known for CPUs with Bulldozer Architecture (like your FX-6100).

The problem is not related to your graphics card or its drivers.

You can try a workaround drescribed here:

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/131/index/7251342/7#14385018

Basically you have to enable the Console first (Not for cheating, but for enabling commands),

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/PC_Cheats#Enabling_The_Console

Then in Peak 15 you have to type "viewmode unlit" into the console.

This fixes the light-shading problem. You can undo the changes with "viewmode lit" after Peak15.

I guess it won't be fixed like the PhysX Incompatibility Problem. The game is just too old.
