Not always people wanting to cheat. They may actually be wanting to just quit the game from the menu.
I was playing a game right now. I'm losing 10-7, late in 3rd qtr and I just kicked the ball to him. He opened the pause menu and BAM...controller doesn't work. Nothing works!!!
Earlier today I got called for Delay of game because it wouldn't let me choose a play. Oh...but guess what, I could still call TIME OUT or open the pause menu and then be stuck there.
EA has TERRIBLE programmers and support. I've been dealing with these kinds of knick nack issues since NCAA on the Xbox 360. EA doesn't care. or at least, they have never shown me that they care because they will take 2-4 months before releasing a patch that addresses any issues and that is if they address them at all!!
I keep wanting to NEVER buy an EA football game, but they have the ONLY football game.
Hmm...I wonder if that's part of the reason they don't have to care.
I wrote a pretty long pissed off email about this when it happened to me yesterday when I was nearly in the superbowl of an H2H season. EA not only acknowledged that my story regarding the glticher was true, but offered only a canned response sending me to some other web form to file a "bug report" (which is how I believe I contacted them in the first place). Ironically, they now litter their tech support responses with * about their remarkable tech support. I will paste my whole interaction with them here.
This is probably the most frustrated I have been over the "hacking" that EA seems to allow to take place on the xbox 360, dating back to last season. I am extremely fired up right now over this, but I will try to remain level headed and objective in my report.
Throughout all the games I participated in during Madden 2015 (last year's version), there was a widely prevalent "pause game" hack where the opponent you were playing would somehow pause the game, hanging it indefinitely until one of the two of you quit. EA NEVER addressed this issue and I even complained about it myself on several occasions never to receive a response other than that EA was too busy to handle my request at that time and that they would investigate. Gee, thanks.
I'm not going to roll over on this one. I'm legitimately PISSED OFF here. The game is brand new. I have spent more money on packs and upgrades to my ultimate team throughout the past 2 Madden's than I have on the game itself. I do NOT expect to fall victim to some punk * kid with a handbook of hacks he purchased on ebay to steal my win, terminate my championship run, and ultimately end up winning the super bowl I was well on my way to winning.
Let me just clearly detail the bug this user, "HaX DA AXE40" used against me in the championship game of my H2H tournament in which I was 11-1 and on fire. I received the ball on my first drive, was unable to score. I either punted or he picked it. Either way we are still in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Immediately after he gains possession of the ball, he pauses the game. I see the "please wait" modal window pop up (the same one that comes up when someone disconnects during a game). It was immediately followed by the "connection to your peer has been lost". I have a rock solid connection first and foremost, do not even try to say that perhaps my connection may have had a blip. Typically when someone disconnects like this, you get credited with the win as soon as you get back to the menu or very shortly thereafter. Immediately I was presented with the H2H menu asking me to start a new season, with the lower right box saying my last match was a "0-0 L".
Its clear you guys have given up on enhancing the actual gameplay of the 360 version of madden. I have no qualms with that. I just want to play the latest version with the latest players. But if I'm shelling out more money to purchase your * cards and keep my team competitive, I expect to a) receive legit and timely support to known bugs/hacks such as these and b) some sort of effort from EA to keep these * hacking children in a sandbox of their own and let the grown men who pay enjoy themselves when they play.
I don't know how or if you guys plan on rectifying this situation, but a fair solution is certainly not to just go and place me back in a championship game of another H2H tournament. Why? Because I only play when I'm in the * zone, and tonight I was in the zone. I was not going to lose that superbowl.
Also in the opening launch week of the game, I cannot tell you how many coins, unwarranted losses, etc were given to me. I never once complained, and I was pleased to see that most of those glitches were repaired. But now we seem to be right back where we were with last game's glitching issues and children ruining the game for paying customers. Let me know if this is something I should expect to deal with for the remainder of the season so I can take the Madden disc and burn it right now, the same way I've done with every penny I've shelled out on your services.

6) CREDIT MY ACCOUNT WITH A 94 RATED CORNERBACK (RONDE PLEASE)
7) UNDERSTAND THAT I PLAY THIS GAME TO RELAX, I AM ANYTHING BUT RELAXED RIGHT NOW
8) MOST IMPORTANTLY, ACTUALLY READ THIS EMAIL IN ITS ENTIRETY!!! I APOLOGIZE FOR THE VULGARITY THROUGHOUT BUT I ASSURE YOU IVE BEEN TRYING MY HARDEST TO TONE IT DOWN.
9) PROVIDE ME WITH A PROMPT RESPONSE INDICATING THAT MY PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND MY REQUESTS HAVE BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED. IF IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR THESE THINGS TO HAPPEN, PLEASE PROVIDE A REASONABLE TIME FRAME IN WHICH YOU PLAN TO MAKE THESE THINGS HAPPEN.
If you plan not to maintain active support of this game (which is making you guys loads of recurring income from xbox 360 users still purchasing packs). Granted the population is not as large as that of the xbox one, but we are still out here spending the same amount of money on your products and deserve to receive the same amount of attention.

The icing on the cake was when I went ot reply to that email, it bounced back to me saying undeliverable. Truly wish these *s didnt have an exclusive contract with the NFL as far as video games go.
I am wondering if EA are planning some sort of update for this. I have just bought the game and it has happened to me 4 times in 5 games and I am not sure if it is EA or the player. I have been looking around on Twitter and not many people seem to have this issue so I am wondering if it is a bug that has occurred during download?
