At the moment weapon fire mode switching is really clunky; it can't be done at the same time as many other actions, either resulting in ignored input, or worse, queued keypresses.
The message delivered upon successfully switching lacks prominence, and depending upon what's occurring on screen, can be completely lost.
Also the current fire mode state is not adequately presented in the UI; the status icon(s) are both small, and lack distinction from one-another.
If all these were fixed, the whole mechanic of switching fire mode could be expanded to become a viable in-combat decision, with future guns designed around it and existing guns retrofitted to leverage it more meaningfully.
Example:
Havoc with selectfire attachment would become more viable.
Prowler burst/full auto switching mid-combat would be a meaningful decision; same for all the ARs
