Based on my experience, the SBMM in casual seems to kick in directly after your first game (which is good). No more playing with noobs until lvl 10. If you get 15-20 kills+2-4k dmg your very first game, your second game will get you matched together with the the rest of the players. Also, I honestly think the SBMM in casual seems quite soft atm. I have about 2.6 overall K/D and whenever I jump in and play solo, my matches are quite fair with about 25-30% Diamond trails and only a few (like 1-3) with Predator trails.
However, it seems to me that the matches are way more stacked if I play with a three man squad which makes me believe that the SBMM is pretty soft but that the matchmaking mostly tries to match full premade full squads together. So thats maybe why the matches feel so stacked when playing with full premade squads, i.e. because most high skill players like to play premade with other high skill players, thus making that queue more stacked .
I also base this hypothesis of mine on observation I did over quite many games: I simply took notes on how many times a downed enemy left immediately after getting knocked and I saw a significantly higher frequency of early leavers when playing solo compared to my games when I played with a full premade squad.
