Is there a way or something to lock an item when you call dibs on it to prevent another player from grabbing it?

You realise how easily such an ability would be abused, right?

yeah I agree with you.
dibsed items must be locked to player who called for it. whats the use of dibs when someone can just grab steal it ahead than you lol makes no sense.

@squeezedcoma there's no way to lock items for yourself, and while the rule of dibs is nice, it's also contextual.
@BentoChopstx If you don't contribute to a fight and dibs an item from a dead guy, should you get it? No. If you 2v3 a squad and the guy next to you pings a golden barrel but your teammate who hadn't contributed dibs it before you do, should they get it? No. Your whole squad's using heavy ammo, and someone pings a level 3 mag, you call dibs but your other teammate reaches the box a hair before you do, should you get it? No. You've got a slacker teammate who's done nothing but go down and they dibs gold armor despite not contributing damage. Are you gonna give it to them? No.
Be close enough to the item in question for your dibs to stick, or don't bother at all and understand all loot is equally up for grabs, and not everyone is going to respect dibs. Especially if you haven't contributed / and or are a terrible player.

Sure dibsing an item should give you exclusive rights to that item.... that is, if we were talking about toys as 5 year old kids at the kindergarten. Geez and people wonder why Respawn doesnt listen to this forum =)

Dibs is just informational, showing your teammates that you want this item. It shouldn't lock this item to you, it would be stupid.

@BentoChopstx Personally I find it annoying when me and a teammate need a pinged itemed and he calls dibs while further away.
You want dibs on the purple armor despite being twice as far as me from the item? No chance and you're a pest for even claiming it.
"Pest" isn't the word I want to use here.
