I'm sure I'm not the first person to raise this concern regarding gameplay on console and I certainly won't be the last, but I'm writing this anyway...
Aim Assist on console should be an optional feature.
In my experience it's okay... but my opinion? Well it is less than satisfactory.
I'm sure it helps a lot of players out, I won't deny it has probably helped me out before without realising as well.
However it really should be an optional feature.
My main example of why I find the aim assist at present to be an issue is the result of the following interaction I had with this game;
During a game, the match was in it's final few rounds and there were 5 squads still standing, with the rings closing around Airbase.
My squad and I were perched upon the tops of the larges walls surrounding airbase, finding safety there as other squads who didn't have a Pathfinder to get up there were approaching the area.
As we were defending we found ourselves in a firefight with the other four squads (all of which were situated at the furthest end of Airbase from us).
We then spent the majority of our time using snipers in trying to hit squads that occupied the opposite end of the airbase. Emphasis on trying to hit them.
Now, this is were the problem lies...
The aim assist was wasting our shots.
Although we were using sniper rifles we were not using sniper optics, as we favoured the use of mid-range scopes like the 2-4x and 3x scopes instead.
Due to this, some enemies given their distance were still small when looked at.
When it came to shooting them it proved difficult when they were bunched up together.
It was easy enough to hit an enemy when they were alone as some were knocked down and eliminated, however when they were closely knit, it was near impossible to even graze them.
Every time I tried to maintain a shot on said players, the aim assist wouldn't allow for accurate aiming.
Due to the enemy squads being so close together at times, the aim assist would prevent concise aiming as it would drift in multiple directions as a result of aiming at multiple enemies at once.
For example; I was aiming at one enemy who was standing in front of their two squad mates, but because they we all moving in different directions, it resulted in my sight drifting with every move they made.
I couldn't hit the player I was aiming at because by the time I pulled the trigger to fire, my aim would have shifted to another player as they moved past my initial target.
I didn't move my analog stick so why did my aim change?
If I was aiming at one player, why did the game mechanic decide I should aim at someone else?
Why can't I keep my sights on the single thing I want to aim at?
This has happened often and I always find myself disapproving of it and wishing I could disable it.
My squad won the round I mentioned in my example, so I'm not complaining in saying it should be removed from the game as if it's the reason I might lose a match like some kind of sore loser.
I am simply requesting that Respawn make the feature optional.
If I aim at someone I don't want to have to be in conflict with the game itself when I try to shoot them as they stand near another player.
I just want to be able to look in one direction and not have the game change it for me unnecessarily.

To be more specific, 1. In the controller settings, go all the way to the bottom and click onto advanced look controls, there you will find "target compensation" you can set to on or off.

It actually is optional. You can turn it off in the advanced controller options.

Thank you for pointing this out for me.
I had looked shortly after I first started playing this game upon release as to whether or not it could be toggled.
When I did it wasn't present in any of the menus. At least not for me anyway.
I guess I should've checked again post updates prior to writing out my original post.
