Thing is - they've 'solved' a problem that only existed because of another problem. Get rid of the elite lobby entry based on top 5 placement and there's no reason to sit in the tier1 zone. This was never a problem before and end-game zonecamping by lifelines could have been fixed by having the 3rd/4th zones do permanent health damage or exponentially more damage than the early zones.
Making the first two zones this brutal just means you can't have any lasting engagements and those early fights before everyone is purpled up to their eyeballs used to be the most hectic, with 3p after 3p.

This change is absolutely terrible in every way and should be reverted. As someone who regularly wins or reaches top 5 I dont want to even queue for Elite anymore.
Here are the reasons why this change is terrible.
1. It punishes you for dropping on the edges of the map if you have a far first circle. No time to loot or fight.
2. It forces you to avoid fights, you dont have time to fight on the way to the circle or sometimes even right after dropping.
3. It makes low mobility characters even worse, as mobility character have an advantage getting to the circle
4. It heavily rewards camping the edges of the new circle, stragglers have basically no chance, they either suicide into you or die to the zone.
5. It removes all strategies around zone play, You can no longer revive teammates outside the zone, you can no longer reposition in the zone, particularly bad if people are camping the edge, you can no longer fight in the zone at all. These strategies and flexibility is part of what make Apex fun.
6. It negatively impacts the pace of the game, everything is a rush to get to the new circle or you instantly die. This isnt fun. Apex is already one of if not the fastest paced BR games where third party and large fights are common, massively accelerating the pace with this change is stupid.
7. It makes the RNG aspects of BR even worse, a team drops close to the first circle and gets purple armors, you drop on the edge and the circle is far, you have no time to loot because the zone will instantly kill you, have fun running for 2 minutes only to get the circle and lose. Fun gameplay?
Overall this change is absolutely awful and I sincerely hope this isnt planned for the ranked mode in season 2 because if it is i wont be playing it or this game.

@EA_Blueberry I fail to understand how the feedback you're getting is in favor of this change. You must not be reading the same feedback that I am. Regardless of any feedback this change is bad and should be reverted. It fundamentally changes the way the game is played, limits strategies and tactics, changes the pacing of the game and makes the RNG aspects of BR games worse.
The reasoning for this change, namely that people were camping in the zone to get into Elite queue is a bad one. Its literally possible to camp INSIDE the circle or close to it avoiding all fighting to get top 5. There are plenty of places to hide where no one will find you. So are you going to start causing players to take damage if the stay in the same spot for too long now too? Sure its 'safer' to camp inside the zone but it doesnt change the fact that I can merely find someplace inside the circle to hide to achieve the same result.
Furthermore the reasoning for this change is contradictory. By saying that you dont want people to hide and camp in the zone you're essentially saying that you want people to fight and be aggressive but this change actually ENCOURAGES people to avoid fighting. You literally have to avoid fights and constantly run away because if you stop and get caught by the zone you instantly die. If you're on you're way to the new circle and engage another team or they engage you its over, you both lose, there is nothing fun about this.
Finally this change removes strategies and all play involving the zone. You can no longer revive teammates and re position using the zone which fundamentally changes how the game is played for the worse. It also gives rise to a new kind of camping, camping the edges of new circle for FREE kills. The enemy teams running to the circle in a bad position and already at a disadvantage have to choose between running into you, likely dying, or instantly dying to the zone. It also exacerbates the issue of RNG with BR games, if you land far from the first zone you have no time to properly loot or fight and will be at a huge disadvantages against people who landed closer and got better loot because they actually have time to both loot and fight other squads.
I very much hope that the same change isnt planned for the ranked mode in Season 2, because quite frankly I wont continue playing this game if thats the case.

First circle damage in Elite is a joke. Played one game of elite last night and will not even attempt to play again. Situation was simple the hot zone was below relay we landed there fought off the three teams that landed with us edge of circle was by cascades. By the time fights and looting were done circle was moving in. None of us had enough heals to even make it back in. Every one on my squad had the same impression, penalize us fo not being able to pick a drop based on circle? Naw you want Fortnite logic you need Fortnite gameplay. We played aggressive were not interested in camping dropped 9 kills and died to the first storm. This will be a hard pass for us and we will stick to the standard squad Apex for now. I don't need a new shiny counter camping badge that badly. It was a nice concept the elite que, but there are some serious bugs with the whole camping mentality(which is player not game based).
If you revert the storm damage or RNG heals a little better it might be worth a shot to play again, but if I and my squad have to go through a couple of fights and loot death boxes and run halfway across the map in 2 minute to avoid what is essentially insta-death to the storm it is not worth playing.
Hope you guys adjust the storm damage to a reasonable number.

I really like the way you try to involve the forum.
Giving feedback and asking questions is very important.
But the mixture is also important...
I have seen what the "core gamers" did to BF with a lot of their demands...
In comparison to that, I have yet to see any real negatively impacting changes here.
And most of the demands from the forum members here are understandable and logic.

Cant, you make it that as long as you run towards the next gaming area in a 30-45° Angle you only take the usual amount of dmg.
But if you come off course or stop you take the full dmg amount??

Just out of curiosity when jumping from the ship how do I know where the circle is going to be? I am a veteran player from Fortnite and that was and always has been the challenge. Where is circle going?
I don't "decide" to drop further away from the circle any more than anyone else does. What I and the people I play with do is launch where we think we want to go, watch other squads and pick a zone close to if not on top of other squad to loot and engage as fast as possible. This has been the strategy we have used in every battle royale type game we play together.
I posted earlier about our experience with the circle, but after reading this comment I felt the need to respond. There is no way to decide in the beginning how far away from the circle you are going to be and under the current "elite" circle damage settings all this game is doing as soon as you see the circle on the other side of the map, you better stop looting/not pick a fight, chicken up and run.
Honestly I put no value on the multi streak badge and laugh if I am in a random fill game with a level 20 player who has 5 streaks and less than 20 kills on their character.
I like the concept behind the elite and I hope you guys do address the storm damage. But I also feel there is so much more that could be tweaked in this game at this point that I will continue to play normal Apex and rack up a couple hundred thousand more legend tokens.
On a side note the game is pretty well polished and one helluva fun game to play, thanks for the fun times.

Im no out-cyrcle camper, but this change is really BAD. Unplayable game now, think about it.
