It’s been quite a journey for us Pathfinder mains.
Pathfinder was clearly one of the most OP legends during the early days of Apex and Respawn did what they needed to do to bring him more in balance with the rest of the characters.
That being said, I don’t want Pathfinder to return to an unfair OP state. But as a Pathfinder main I still find myself longing for a real balance for the character. I’m sorry, right now Pathfinder is unbalanced (and not in a good way).
Parhfinder’s pros:
-The grapple is versatile and distance based. The tac is fair.
-The zipline will always be viable. In Masters and Pred lobbies it is MUCH less viable (as people will one clip you as you ride the zip), but it’s still viable at other skill levels. Nevertheless, Horizon is much better at granting her whole team a height advantage.
Pathfinder negs:
-Pathfinder is undoubtedly the easiest character in the game to one clip. He is fairly large and takes increased damage everywhere. Low Profile makes sense for the old broken hitbox— it does NOT make sense for this hitbox.
-Pathfinder is the only character in the entire game that doesn’t have a unique passive. Scanning beacons USE TO BE a real contribution to the team but there is almost no reason to pick Pathfinder over the other two recon Legends who have their own passive PLUS the ability to scan beacons.
-Pathfinder’s other old redeeming quality was gaining his team a height advantage. While he can still do that, Horizon is the better pick here because her method of gaining height comes quicker and leaves her team harder to damage.
Respawn VERY CLEARLY wanted to reduce Pathfinder’s win and pick rate. I absolutely believe they achieved this— but the character still needs some work to fully flesh out. I’m not saying this should take precedence over fixes to other Legends, but us Path mains have the unique burden of knowing through experience how viable the character COULD be.
