xbox user play with origin user

I just saw my friend playing pvz battle for neighborville on Xbox One.

I do not have xbox one but we want to play together

I wonder if I can join a multiplayer server with different device and play together

I would like to buy it on origin rather than buying a new Xbox.

Cross platform makes every game better. I have a friend on PC who I can only play Minecraft and Fortnite with (Save the World, neither of us would stoop to playing the horrendous thing known as Battle Royale).
