if i were to buy the Xbox-series x edition of battlefield 2024, and my friend buys the Xbox 1 version of the game, Will we be able to play together

CrossPlay works only between new Consoles and PC -> PS5 , Xbox Series X/S & PC

Old consoles will be able to play together -> PS4 & Xbox One 

If you buy Gold or Ultimate Edition, you should be able to switch between Old/New Gen version of the game.

@ChikenNuget570Yes, if you buy the Gold or Ultimate Editions of the game, it includes the “cross-gen” bundle. This will allow you to install the XBox1 version of the game on your XBox Series X and play with your friend.

Do bear in mind though, you will not be able to play with other XBox Series S/X players at the same time.  The cross-gen versions of the game are mutually exclusive.

Cross-gen NO (in general)

- Cross-play will be only between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

- and only PS4 and Xbox One together.

Cross-gen you asked for is working like the following...

If you pre-ordered already or will buy the Gold or Ultimate edition of Battlefield 2042, you get the Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One version of the game. It's like a Bundle basically. 

Which means you can play with Xbox Series X/S friends if you start this specific Game version. And if you want to play with friends that only have a Xbox One, just start up this version installed on your Xbox Series X/S Console and hop in with them. 

Same for PS5 and PS4! 

And as progress and stats also cross platform in Battlefield 2042, you can also continue where you stopped on the last platform you played on. (as long as those are all linked to the same EA ID)

Yes you can play with your friend on xbox one...since your buying series x/s version you will be able to download the xbox one version..it will be 64 man lobbies old gen...128 new gen....
