can i transfer to steam?

When the steam version comes out, can I transfer over to steam? Will I lose all my data? Will it act as a second account? The reason is that  I like playing with steam gift cards and that would be really convenient.

@syzole The way they said it, it will run with Origin in the background so your account is safe and sound.
