Windows Snap Feature

★★★★★ Novice

I have multiple monitors on my computer. I use them all the time and have various things open together.

Moving windows between my monitors is often necessary.
Origin does not make use of the Windows Snap feature in 7, 8 or 10.
This is INCREDIBLY frustrating in a number of ways as it doesn't allow me to use my keyboard to shift windows to other monitors, sometimes with a different resolution.

When is Origin going to get this basic functionality? It isn't a "new thing" that came out last week.

@TaintedDemonWolf Hi,

Thank you for the feedback.

I am currently not aware of our plan to support this feature in the future, but I will make sure to pass this on as a suggestion on your behalf, as soon as I get the chance.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions for the Origin Client.

Cheers,

Nils

I feel it IS affecting my gaming experience. I find it annoying to have to keep moving the window around and it is clunky and not effective so I end up not even WANTING to interact with Origin at all. As a result, I have missed some of the On The House deals that I would have really liked.

Saying that there hasn't been any request for it is nonsense because the first 8/10 searches on many search engines return results to pages with people complaining about the issue.

It is a long running issue that should have been resolved AGES ago.

When will we get a "Yes it is in the next patch" or "No, it is never ever going to happen" instead of the generic "We will escalate it" that is seen on so many pages.

Even if we do not have a time frame, tell us WHY does Origin not work with Aero or the Snap feature when almost every other program I have ever used functions without an issue?

Totally going to resurrect this. For Origin not to support Window snapping makes for a terrible user experience. I have never used a Windows application that didn't support native window snapping.

In the latest version of Origin (10.2.2.60207 - 0 as I write this), managing the main window is an absolute chore. Changing screen resolutions or switching to a different display causes major problems with where the window is located, its dimensions, etc.

Being able to drag the window to the top or sides of the screen to quickly size and position the window, like every single Windows application is a must.

Please support this very basic feature.

I'm not sure how accurate it is but I have briefly mentioned it to someone else who codes their own programs.
From what I understand, if a window can be maximised and resized, it should be able to use Snap because it is Windows that does the management. And, it sounds like, it would have to be disabled in the code of the application in order for Snap to not work.

Which makes it all the more insane if it is true!

I can understand specifying certain parameters when it comes to a window resizing, like a minimum width, to prevent the content layout breaking. I've seen this in some applications. Even they support Snap though. If I drag it to the edge of the screen, it snaps to the edge, keeps the minimum width but at least fills to height.

But outright disabling the entire feature?

Any chance of someone from EA actually giving some meaningful response to this?

I absolutely agree. To not support such a basic feature is unacceptable.

EA, if your reading this, please ask your dev's to include this as a feature request.

A lack of such basic UI features is one (of the many...) reasons your gaming client is not preferred to others.

Resurrecting this necro thread because it has been over a year now.

More and more people are calling for this basic feature, especially with the rollout of Windows 10.

Origin, are you reading things posted to your forums? Are you looking at Reddit? Are you listening???

Windows Snap Assist, give us the feature!!!

And there are more listed above.

It's 2018, why does Origin still not support a basic windows feature that has existed since Windows 7 (almost 10 years)!?

And no, EA, adding an Origin DLC to allow window snapping isn't an option.

@EA_Nils

We want an update.

You pass the suggestion forward and then abandoned the thread?

It's 2019 and we still don't have this feature....

This is such a basic feature, come on EA!
