@Neovisi0n per Dice they gave the an analogy for specialists saying to think of classes as categories and the specialists fall under one of those categories. Which to me would imply specialists being an archetype for an overarching class. Meaning there would still be some generics for each class and then specialists selection is how you specialize within that class gadget wise. If that isn't what they meant than they should not have stated it that way as its misleading.

@WinterbornGuardFrom the same statement you're talking about, I understood that though there are no more distinct classes, but It will be clear that specific specialists will fall into those original classes. I guess they could cater the additional gadget for each individual specialist, but I highly doubt this will be the case.
Obviously I haven't played the game yet, but playing games like R6S and seeing the amount of work it takes for the developer to cater even just 2 gadgets per operator, I cant imagine a game like BF would bother based on the scale and the fact that they're no longer restricting the weapons.

@Neovisi0n Sunday will tell. At that point why even bother with specialists lol may as well be create a class. I am sure gameplay will look good and probably be fun but battlefields shedding its identity to some extent and not sure I will love that.

These last few posts demonstrate the way the discussion should be going given the I formation available at the moment.
Names and back story is just inconsequential fluff!
That said, it is still just speculation at this point and does not deserve demands for change yet!
My 2 biggest concerns are:
As discussed above, how much restictrtion will there be in choice of gadgets and/or weapons in order to maintain a semblance of 'class' separation. I'm all for limited 'all class' weapons but a free for all could create some horrible results.
How easy will it be to distinguish between a friendly Boris and an enemy Boris?
Again though, these are only concerns based on the information available. As more detail emerges, these concerns may be appeased or may justify constructive criticism in the hope for change.

You could already tell roles apart super easily in previous entries. The classes were all standard looking military, but they had enough distinction to tell which class they were

Not necessarily, unless you're a cherry playing in Hardcore.
I prefer to have multiple options of classes and characters looking different. I personally play hardcore and believe it or not, that helps me on the battlefield for example, with my family members playing in a squad we do our best for each other to pick a specific-looking character that closely resembles them or because they like the look for both side... We never change the character after that and it's funny in a way because in-game it becomes you and I can tell who each person is from a distance while communicating one rarely mistaken a friend as an enemy.

The "immersion" claim is old, unfounded and a straw man argument in Battlefield games. Every class was an identical clone of the next guy playing that class. Where was the bellyaching, gnashing of teeth and community outcry at past 15 titles about character appearances and "muh immersion" then? This reminds me of the social media twatter mob and thier manufactured outrage over something they've never researched.
