Why is ally code considered personal info?

In a recent post by a developer, it was stated that an ally code is considered personal info. Why is this?

@EA_Kent then is it a bug that you can see other peoples ally codes by visiting their profiles?

The way you add friends in game is by entering their ally code.

Apologies for the confusion. 

@sigsig3131 You're totally right on that, I got confirmation that it's intended to work that way. Ally codes are visible to others. That's my mistake. I'll edit my post above and the pinned post on this board to avoid any confusion.
