I agree, I was so surprised that this game was free when I first saw it.

After 2 days playing I put in 20 dollars to support the game - if I got any skin I liked it was just a bonus.

THO.. I would like to spend money on skins that I know that I will get - I dont like random lootboxes.

I see that most people agree with me but there are some who still think that loot boxes are a 'scary' idea. If customers can only buy what they want then they will only spend what they need to get said items, and nothing more. You can call it greed all you want but at the end of the day they need to be making money, and a couple million people spending a few quid on the items that they want is all great...until 2 months and everyone has all the items they want, and no more money coming in.

There isn't anything wrong with lootboxes, it is how they are implemented which makes or breaks the deal. Overwatch, Apex legends, good examples of lootbox additions. I'm afraid that many of you showing an instant disapproval of lootboxes and EA in general are maybe not quite as business savvy as you think.

@powermadmatt 2 months in is when you add new content and the guys who bought what they wanted find new stuff they want on a new weapon or a new Legend or in new stuff for an old weapon or legend.

F2P will be complaining they are getting 0 items for free and they are 'looking after the whales'trust me as a mobile game dev I have seen it all, tried every approach, the ones who don't want to pay always feel shafted. People are too entitled these days

The OP's entire post is completely irrelevant and detached to the reason why people dislike loot boxes.

The issue is fair compensation at a reasonable price. There is not a single individual that realistically "expects everything for free" this is pure pretentious jargon to try and discredit any consumer that has a complaint.

Promoting gambling based mechanics is preying on peoples psychological weaknesses and all around is a inconveinent means to obtain content in game. The current rate and pricing of the Apex store is absolutely crazy. Almost $20 for some skins that are not even remotely worth it for cosmetics you'll just see when you pick up a gun.

EA already has a EXTREMELY bad name for "exploiting" (to say nicely) games stores in order to generate revenue which eventually lead to disdain and abandonment of some of their other published items.

I for one sincerely like the game, and even bought the founders pack for $30 and additional $10 apex coins and in exchange it literally got me almost nothing. There is no sincere exchange of content value to money in the game. That's why people have concerns and complain.

I heard someone use the "Cornucopia" argument... which i can see as being a nice thing... for some people...

But, i think a lot of the counter arguments in this thread hit the nail on the head...

What am i dumping money into?

I would love to support this game... but a lot of us are tired of the gaming company ethics lately , hence why  talking * about EA and the fact they released the game without hype, pre-order, pre-alpha, seasonal pass for dlc , fronting nonsense... is what brought me here, and i think a lot of other people too...

I spent 20 bux on loot boxes, as i already earned 50,000 in game credits and bought the characters, im almost lvl 100.... fun amazing game, and i want to see it succeed...

But the 20 bux i spent didnt feel good?

I got a lot of random stuff, but not the items i really wanted? I mean its not a big deal... the items dont make or break the game but what am i paying for?

I'm not a big fan of gambling, never liked going to the casino's ... maybe some occasional "Texas hold'em" but... i despise slot machines and video poker machines....

When does the 20 bux stop?

Why not come up with 2 payment systems?
Keep the "Cornucopia" for the people who like that stuff... and maybe add a way to just buy what you want? 5$ 10$ 20$ a skin... League of legends does it...

Maybe make the loot boxes a cheaper way to get items you want , but you know... if you want to stop gambling , you can just straight up buy the cool skin or w/e you want...

Why random loot boxes?

Is it because those are the 2 highest things saleing right now on that graph that all the super smart CEO's or analysts use?

Micro-transaction loot boxes and new releases = biggest sales?

As you can't tell there's a big movement going against that as people are trying to educate gamers to invest smarter Tongue out

I dont want a new shiney game every month/year... and i dont want to dump 500$ everytime one comes out...

If i have to ... ill go back to chess....

Chess... an amazing game... that lasted centuries ... amazing.

Nah, wake up, most people actually disagree with you, but guess what ? They're not here ^^ They don't give a damn about forums and will leave as soon as they'll get tired of getting no rewards for their involvement in this game.

You say you don't give a * about them ? Oh, wait, bad news, they're the majority !

And as soon non paying players will start to look elsewhere to have fun, this game will die as fast as it rised.

Lootboxes are cancer, but not only for players, taking advantage of and comforting them in an unhealthy addiction, also for games that it can kill and the entire video game industry.

But in March we'll get the answer...

@Allen_Boothyou said it way better than i ever could.

Heck, i wouldnt mind paying monthly for this game and pay2play would be fine too.

Sometimes i even buy stuff in f2p games if i like them (and the stuff you get) enough.

However, they seem rather greedy with apex.

I mean, what are legend tokens even for? Only for unlocking classes? If they'd give out crafting mats every win or an apex crate, i'd be way more inclined to buy something.
