When I try to download games on Origin, Origin crashes.

Hello, all.

I just recently bought FIFA 18 and when I try to download it, Origin crashes. I tried it with a different game and that same thing happened. I cleaned my cache, run a malware scan an everything. Also, for some reason, my Origin is infested with ads.

Please reply, as I really need help and I'm trying to play the game.

Cheers.

Hey there @labradorXP

Origin shouldn't have ads on it. It sounds like you may have been hit with some type of malware which probably also is what gets in the way of the downloads. There's also a possibility you're not using an Origin client that is actually provided by EA but rather a version tinkered by others so we need to fix that as well.

So let's get to it.

Cleaning up your computer.

I know that you said you ran a malware scan but it's better to be safe than sorry, right ? So first things first, what I would do is that I'd clean up my computer with CCleaner : https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Then I would use some form of malware remover to ensure you wouldn't have viruses or the like on you. Here's a few options:

- Malwarebytes, it's free and effective for when it comes to cleaning infections, but unfortunately has no free real-time protection : https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

- BitDefender, a good all-around program to have around for a more permanent protection from viruses and the like : https://www.bitdefender.co.uk/solutions/free.html

- AVG, an old classic that has been around for a long while. A bit annoying sometimes with its user interface but highly effective as a program : https://www.avg.com/en-ww/homepage

- AdAware, another old classic that is still free and functional : https://www.adaware.com/antivirus

Usually a good idea is to run two malware removers one after the other to ensure one program doesn't miss some malware the other is able to find. It may take some time but it's all for the sake of your computer's health !

You can lastly run Wise's Registry Cleaner and Wise's Disk Cleaner to remove any other forms of junk or errors from your system. This is optional, though generally good for your computer's health.

Wise's Registry Cleaner : http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-registry-cleaner.html

Wise's Disk Cleaner : http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

Uninstall your current Origin.

Here is a good guidance to that : https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/

By uninstalling your current Origin we make sure that you are beginning from a fresh start and we make sure you do not have an infected client on you anymore.

Download a new, fresh Origin client.

Go to this link and download Origin from there : https://www.origin.com/en-ie/download

Just follow the installation wizard to get through the installation progress. If you do bump into any problems though, this link has the basic guidance and troubleshooting steps to installing Origin : https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/install-origin/

---

I hope these steps would help you out. I suspect the infestation of your Origin client is what makes you unable to download as well, but if the ads disappear but the downloads still do not work, follow these steps.

- Make sure you're having the necessary administrator rights to actually run Origin : https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-do-i-run-a-program-or-a-game-as-an-administrator/

- Make sure your Origin isn't blocked by your firewall or any other type of connectivity issue : https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/connection-issues-with-origin/

EDIT: Sorry for quite a link-heavy post !

Good luck !
