The ping is crap and I don't speak the language.

I'd rather wait for a local game.

Please fix your matchmaking.

I select my local data centre - matchmaking doesn't seem to care.

Weird.....What DC do you choose? You're not being redirected to an Asian server are you? Maybe It's 'cause the DC you chose has more Asian players? Have you asked your  teammates what server you're on?

I choose the Sydney Data Centre (I'm in Australia).

I suspect I am being redirected to an Asian server just to quickly get me into a match.

Can notice the distinct increase in lag and that speedometer icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. 

Can't ask my team mates because they all have Chinese names and don't speak english - lol.

This is a mechanic of the matchmaking  EA/ Respawn are not forthcoming about.

At least in PUBG I know when I am on a South East Asian (SEA) server - they are transparent about it.

The southeast Asia players can also choose to connect to the Sydney server.
