Question about background services and automatic application updates?

so I see that these 2 options are 2 separate things in options:

what’s the difference between enabling automatic updates of application and enabling background services? I see both of these are on by default so wondering.

also, if I turn off these. How would that impact “experience” like if I try to open a game directly. Will it open ea app and first prompt me to accept an update as I:

1. didnt allow it to install automatically so I need to manually press yes and

2: it can’t happen it background so I would need to open it which it does when you open a game ?
