I think it's fair to say that the P2020, Alternator and RE-45 are meant for the early game, but why not find a way to make them useful in the late game too?
I suggest giving the player full run speed, as if they had holstered their weapons, when holding these two guns. This way, by holding on to them, they sacrifice gun power for a much faster character, which might be great for certain play styles.
Of course, any grenades (or maybe just arc stars) should remove the speed penalty too!
In particular, I always try to use wraith and fill my inventory with arc stars, but without speed, it's almost impossible to keep up in range. Giving me the option to have a weaker, but faster weapon, would really help bring this new play style out.
