If I link my origin and steam account can I keep my steam account progress?

So I play apex legends on steam and all of my progress is on steam. But I have a big origin apex gift card. Can I link my origin and steam account to use the gift card for cosmetics without losing my steam account progress? Or will it default to using my origin account progress?

You have always the same progress on both clients.

You may adjust controls and settings again but that's it.
