Got a kill for finishing someone even though i didnt down them [ Edited ]

Just curious if anyone else has had this happen. I showed up late to a fight between 2 teams and noticed someone already downed and crawling around...so I finished them and somehow got the kill for this. Has anyone had this happen to them and or know why it happened!? To my knowledge you only get the kill if you downed them and it doesnt matter who finished them.

Probably the one who knocked them down got disconnected or left the game.

if you finish or shoot out someone who was downed by a different team, you get the kill over an assist.
