Genius idea to satisfy both sides of the fan base.

★ Guide

So, as we all know, there will never be variants added to this game, which I know some people will like, but a lot of others hate. How about a compromise?

We could have something along the lines of an upgrade that would give you the element on your primary. It could be:

  • A very expensive upgrade (4-5 cost) that would give you fire, ice, etc, but not nerf your weapon damage
  • A cheaper one (2-3) that does nerf your damage
  • One that would seriously nerf your damage, but was something you seceded for free on your character. E.G. when creating a preset, you could just choose an element.

These would all be great. BFN has so much potential, just give it more of the old GW feel.

@YeetYeetGw2 I would not be against this. If they added a level beyond master that required massive amounts of XP to reach. 2 variant upgrades as the reward.

However, I view it as highly unlikely. The more variants added, the more difficult the game is to balance. Also, if they partially gave in to the demand of variants it would only strengthen the outcry for the rest.

I'm not against the addition of 2 variant upgrades for each class, but I highly doubt they will do so. It makes far more sense to create new characters with similar abilities to variant characters, than to give in to the variant demands. Even partially.

I do not like the idea because it adds even more layers of skill gap between vets and newcomers.  The main reason newcomers ditch a game quickly usually boils down to being slaughtered every game (that or conflicting mechanics).

I'm hesitant to play much MP before the game drops because I don't want to learn the maps before the 18th.  I know it's likely dumb to people,I am an old school gamer and love games that have ZERO advantage for anyone.  Map knowledge is one thing but having veterans with higher powered weapons has NEVER made sense to me (in regards to building a community).

I wish a version of PvZ would be created without upgrades so the playing field is fair for those with 1 hour or 1,000 hours.  I do like "Pure Server Settings" (like the Welcome Mat in previous games) but having two sets of servers for each mode seems to separate the community more.

I believe I have the unpopular vote here, just to be clear.  ... and sorry for the wall of text... but I think it's relative to not wanting variants (or even upgrades, for that matter).

@spIash_damage I do tend to agree you about this. I've often said it makes no sense to give advantages for experience, when experience is an advantage in itself. I think it would be possible to introduce a handful of variant upgrades to add spice and variety without advantage, but it is far easier to just simply not do it at all.

@spIash_damage I know that, just I want Fire, ice, toxic, and electric for all. Its still balanced if their is a damage nerf for primary

@spIash_damage I'm completely with you on this. I often swap to the weaker or attacking team to try & balance sides a bit - even though I'm often beaten hollow in terms of vanquishes, I know the game/maps/characters so well that I can use my experience more to make strategic kills or to provide the best support. I sometimes think that a kind PvZ Ambassador scheme could be used to help inexperienced players (who actually want to play in a team-spirited way)
On variants, though I love & miss them I agree it's more balanced without them. Maybe a nice-to-have, sometime-in-the-future option to please the variant-lovers would be to create dedicated game modes for elemental characters?? Where EVERY character was the same element - "Toxic Turf" etc.???

Its in between stuffy and alien for me.... alien is soooo pretty Heart

But ya know if I want to play them I go back to GW2... we played some GW2 Ops today and it was like meeting an old friend Large smile
GW2 will always be my first love Large smile

That said I do love BFN (mostly love) and really don't miss the variants at all (and I thought I would), and I'm glad its not the same as GW2l... as I said... we still have GW2 for them Large smile

I started gaming in GW1, and I WANT MY SHADOW FLOWER BACK. She had more ammo, damage, and fire rate than the basic Sunflower, and I could destroy zombies with her.

In GW2 I enjoyed playing Alien Flower and Sun Pharaoh, which were closely tailed by Power Flower and Stuffy Sunflower. RIP Sunflower variants.
