@Kean_1111It very much is a sales pitch. Buy this, get this, buy that, get that. Yours is a VERY lawyer/EA lootbox (it's not child gambling, it's sUrpRiszE mEcHaNiKz) way of looking at it.  They very much kept it vague and I bought it not for some "p2w" mentality but as a means of just getting a couple extra characters that I might end up getting anyway in addition to being able to play with my friends earlier.  I fell perfectly into their designed trap.  It does not matter what they said on some obscure "journalist" website that isn't link AT ALL on their sales page. It matters what they sell you on THEIR ACTUAL SALES PAGE.

@-DFA-Thump Good point, that splash screen does make it sound like you only get the 4 specialists in year 1 if you buy the Gold or Ultimate editions.

There's nothing "obscure" about some of those publications that had articles about it and I even ran across an interview with DICE months ago where it was mentioned. ....but obscure or not, a Google search would have revealed much of what you needed to know.

.....also nothing to do with loot boxes but if you're dead set on feeling like you were deceived, cheated, etc., I'm obviously not going to change your mind.

Perhaps there is some good in all this you can learn from for next time.  Good luck either way.

@Kean_1111  was it this interview ?

https://www.inverse.com/gaming/battlefield-2042-interview-specialists-multiplayer

Quote from above interview with EA DICE Senior Game Designer Nickole Li:

Battlefield 2042 has a battle pass this time around. How did that decision come about?

The battle pass is an opportunity for us. It’s one way for us to inject new content. We might use it to add new guns, gadgets, and whatever. All that new equipment affects gameplay. We want to make sure all players have a chance to access this stuff, so we’ve included all the gameplay items in the free tier.

There's also the matter of the seasons. Each of these seasons also will have narrative elements. These narrative elements will help to grow the world of 2042, and expand the narrative of this game.

So for me it looks like it is the same than many other Season passes out there.

So lets wait what there will come.

See you on the Battlefield.

Yeah tbh that edition camparison was the only reason I bought the Gold edition instead of Standard.

I don't see how anyone would see that and not think the 4 new specialists are exclusive to battlepass holders. I wasn't going to run the risk of some overpowered specialists beeing added and not have access to them. Went for gold edition for that reason alone.

@CountSero

May not be the same source (I saw it in a recorded interview) but yes, same information and I'm guessing where a lot of articles got their information from.  ....straight from the horses mouth.

I dunno @BizzyVaping, I read the same description and even had I not seem or read what I had did previously I still would have guessed that description was talking about a shortcut vs a P2W model.  ....something very similar to CoD and others.

It would have caused a huge stir if they had released new Specialists with new abilities, etc. only to Gold and Ultimate Edition buyers. Why would they buck the trend of giving everyone gameplay affecting updates and stick to cosmetics with their MTXs?

In either case, had I any doubts and been interested in buying either, I would have at least Googled it and had my answer.  .....or at least enough information to make a decision if it were worth the extra money.

Heck, I still don't know what new updates are in store for Portal but I'm guessing all new assets, etc. will be made available for everyone.  If anything will be behind a paywall, it will be cosmetics I wager.  I think many developers have  realized a while back that keeping the players playing together is better for business then fragmenting them with exclusive gameplay DLC, etc.
