So EA's store front lies through implication that you need the gold edition to get the four upcoming specialists. Just an FYI for anyone (actually) thinking about buying this game to consider. If you buy standard, you will just have to unlock them through gameplay apparently.

@ArchAngeL-PCXThat's the way I read it as well, but this is apparently not the case? There seems to be some very crossed wires in the community about it right now. Would it be too much for EA/DICE to clarify? Or are they still working on figuring out how to make a scoreboard?

I wouldn't call it wishful thinking @ArchAngeL-PCX .
The Passes will include free and premium tiers. The premium items will not be gameplay affecting. ....only aesthetics. Those who bought the Gold and Ultimate will have access to all of the Year 1 additions. I believe it will be up front with no need to grind for them.
I'm not going to go dig up the sources but DICE had already confirmed that the gameplay material will not be locked behind the paid passes. It would make no sense if they did as then the game could be considered a P2W model which wouldn't be fair.
Y1 pass is essentially a shortcut model much the same as others in the industry. .....with unique cosmetic items that will set those plyers apart from the Standard Edition folks.

That's not a sales pitch, it's a product description that says you get access to the Year 1 Pass that includes those items. It doesn't say the Y1 Pass and any of those items included in it are not unlockable for Standard Edition owners.
Personally, I don't see the problem. It's a shortcut model so you don't have to grind for the Y1 Pass like everyone else. ....and you still get exclusive cosmetics the rest of us don't.
Should have researched a little more if you were looking for a P2W advantage as that was not the case. I can see articles written on the topic since June discussing the free tiers vs. premium, the gameplay aspect not being locked behind a paywall, etc.
Either way, I think it is pretty obvious given the absolute crap storm that would ensue if they did lock gameplay aspects behind a paywall like that because then it would have been labeled as a P2W game. If it were a F2P title, that would be a different story.
I can see the argument for the product description being vague but not a lie or even an attempt to be deceitful to be honest. You're going to get what it says.
New name, new look, same great benefits: EA Access and Origin Access are now EA Play.
