Constantly have to hit run

Is it me or the game that requires that I constantly have to hit my run key again to start running?

I open a door, hit run.

I pick up an item, hit run.

etc.

Why don't I keep running once I turn run on?

No other thoughts? 

I don't have anything double bond, so it isn't like I am turning it off.

When opening a door using E, I will hold the SHIFT key down at the same time, along with movement keys, and I will keep sprinting.

The only time I know of when you have to keep hitting SHIFT to sprint is when you use toggle to crouch instead of hold to crouch.
