Buy a game or expansion, but only for Christmas

I want to buy an expansion for a friend. I know I can buy it as a gift, but won't it apply to his account immediately. It's there a way to delay the delivery? Or just get it as a code instead? It's for sale on the origin store for the weekend so I have to get it now.

Hey @iamgregor it's not possible to gift an item through Origin and have its delivery delayed till a later date.

It may be easier to purchase the game from a third-party retailer and then gift the game to your friend: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/where-to-buy-ea-games-v2/
