It started out as a typical f2p game with micro-transactions, but you could actually play competitively by spending little to no money. They had issues with faction balance, but figured out ways to help that eventually. The studio was constantly introducing money-grab after money-grab until new players couldn't compete without spending a good amount of money. The worst ones were literally slot machine style gambling. There were a lot of great things about the game and a lot of great players, but eventually enough people got tired of being ripped off.
