Any plans currently to enable Proton/Wine support?

★★★★ Novice

Recently EAC announced that the latest version of their SDK would allow developers to enable Proton/Wine support for the anticheat, allowing it to run non-natively on Linux. Currently, this is the only thing preventing Apex from being playable on Linux and, by extension, the Steam Deck. Currently, the game runs fine, but kicks the user back to the login/main menu after about a minute due to EAC not working in Proton/Wine.

Previously, there was a custom version of Wine developed in mid-2020 that allowed EAC to work while running in Wine, but a serverside EAC update broke compatibility. As a Linux user who played Apex during the time that Wine patch worked, I'd love to see support enabled. However, as I'm not a dev, I don't know what complexities that would involve outside of making sure EAC still works as it does on Windows while in Proton/Wine.

If there has been any talk that is allowed to be shared I'd love to hear it.

Steam Deck release is very soon. Why aren't we hearing about an Apex update?
