About Mass Effect Andromeda

★★ Novice

Hello to anyone who is reading this humble message written by me.

This is my second message since I returned to play Dragon Age Inquisition some time ago, which by the way is a great game, but currently the servers are dead and there are no live people there to play multiplayer games.

But now the reason for this message is about the game Mass Effect Andromeda, which was also a great game, although not received with open arms by the fans due to the aesthetics of the game have been mediocre in terms of graphics and bugs. What I regret because as a gaming fan I never usually criticize what the developers did right so as not to leave them for fear of discontinuing the saga as they seem to be doing now.

I wish I had bought the game, but unfortunately with this threat that the game will not continue I'm afraid to buy. I played the mass effect with friends and loved the experience, for me it was even better than the previous trilogy. This is just a game why people take it so seriously as to criticize the developers violently, it does not get anywhere, the guys make a game for us to play and we simply say that the game "sucks."

The news about the game is scarce except that they are working on this anthem and they will make a comic book about the mass effect game ... this is unacceptable, I would like a DLC continuing the unfinished business that the game left behind. Whoever agrees, is there any way to pass this on to the developers, that there are people who actually liked the game?

Well BioWare officially put Mass Effect as a whole on ice for the time being and said there will be no DLC for Andromeda at all.

As for the game itself, yes there were some major issues with facial animations but that's far from the only problem the game has. The story is not that good, the main character is bland and the game does still have some issues with sound and lighting that are off but mostly it looks quite good.

It also does have good combat and some beautiful looking planets to explore. So if you buy it on sale and don't have high expectations for the story it actually is an ok game to play. I've played it through a few times myself. It's just not as engaging as previous Mass Effect games.

But the game is dead in the water as far as development is concerned. The co-op still gets some support because they sell lootboxes there but that's basically it.

Unfortunately I do not usually buy a game unless it is in fact complete, I waited a long time to buy the dragon age inquisition, I saw the critics the dlcs, then I saw that the game was going well, and I bought the complete game and it was pure fun.

It is not worth spending my money on something that is not complete and the mass effect passes that feeling at the end of the game. I played with friends and the time I played on their computer I saw that there was no bug, I did not see audio delay or anything, it was pure fun the graphics were beautiful and gameplay well flowed. And if I failed to realize something is because I was too busy having fun rather than criticizing the work of the developers.

All mass effects seems to have that silly moment to chill, after a while hunting for items, exploring planets and killing despicable aliens, makes sense. It's really a shame that they abandoned the game, it was a game that I really liked and I doubt there is any better than this.

They can launch another game with the same theme, but it will never be the same as Mass Effect and you can believe that I will not buy any game based on this style of game made by the same developer.

And thank you for replying and giving me some information

The audio issues I refer to aren't so much bugs as programming mistakes.

For one, when companions or npcs stand behind you their volume is lowered so you can barely hear them, especially if they haven't caught up to your location when you start a conversation. This is designed that way in the game so not a bug as such but it is an issue because I want to hear my companions' comments  as well.

Another one is that sometimes companion lines trigger randomly or you listen to audio clips triggered from consoles. You cannot open crates or it will cut the audio. Also if you trigger a sound clip and at the same time your companion says something, one will cut out the other. So there is collision there that is not resolved in a smooth way.

Also when you turn on an audio clip from a console and you want to look around the room while listening to it, this is problematic because when you turn away the audio is lowered a lot as well so you have to face the console to hear what is being said. I find that all rather annoying.

Of course you speak of games that are complete. Well Andromeda isn't complete. The DLC is cancelled so it will never be complete. There are a lot of story lines that are unfinished and for example the Quarian Ark story is coming out in a book instead of the game now. So to me the game is unfinished and I find that rather unsatisfactory as well.

But there are good sides of course so the game was still fun enough for me to play through a few times, but unfortunately it will never be what it should've been. However, I do not regret buying it. I do regret what it did to Mass Effect as an IP though. Hopefully when they finally get back to Mass Effect in the future, they'll restore Mass Effect to its former glory.

this game was just okay, but for a title with mass effect in the name there is a higher standard based on previous releases. mass effect 2 is to this day still one of my favorite games of all time. the problem with MEA is that they went to a more open world format and the world they built is not interesting narratively. the plants themselves are beautiful and driving around in the nomad to see the views and different areas on each plot is a sight to behold. as an exploration game it does alright but chooses quantity over quality in its quests. so many fetch quests with no reason to care about some urgent problem for an npc you just met. the loyalty missions are pretty well done but majority of the sidequests are throwaway narratively. and there are so many you can pick up on the way to so others that it becomes overwhelming and you start to lose interest in each one as you complete another step. drive to one end of a planet to read a datapad and then go back to get an update from the npc or hear some babbling from SAM. there are a few that are memorable but for the most part its lackluster. mass effect has always been about choices that could affect an entire species. this game has none of that. most of the decisions aren't very meaningful and only change a few voicelines or decide who will he helping you at the end mission

the combat however is great. being able to change profiles in the fly to match up with different enemy types you encounter is refreshingly effective. also for creating a huge open world to explore the game definitely does that. driving in nomad is the best of the series. mass effect 1 Mako was painfully frustrating and they mostly got rid of it in me2.

overall though the game is just mass effect in name and combat abilities and weapons and races but the heart of the series is gone. I don't have any memorable decisions, like agonizing over saving Ashley or Kaiden, deciding to kill Wrex or let him live, getting to know liara tsoni as the games progressed, learning about the mystery of the reapers, saving the galaxy. etc. so many memorable choices and decisions from previous game . but at least we have a massive open world to explore thst is dotted with many many side quests from people you never met or care about.

It's very difficult for me to notice these types of bugs in the game, the only thing I care about is that the game is slow, a poorly optimized game. I already had this kind of experience in games like nier automata.

I've seen the narrative of the game and it's interesting, it does not have that kind of story like the trilogy of the mass effect because this game is already a new world, the characters at the beginning try to socialize in the new world in the world which is evolving in that they bet that it could give a fresh start in another galaxy. Do not wait for the guys to arrive and the tension start.

The story begins difficult when they realize that the world they wanted to inhabit was no longer habitable and with time we see evolution. The issue here in this game, are more political and democratic as it has always been in most games of the series. I did not see anything wrong with the story of the game I did all the missions and I did not see anything wrong with the missions, I just did not have the patience to explore the planets in search of materials. So I skipped this most of the time. I hope deep down the developers of bioware continue the story of the game, because from what I saw in that anthem there is nothing interesting besides flying around and killing giant animals, I bet it will be as bad as they did the MSA.

Well people get different things out of stories and some won't care about it at all and just are interested in combat.

However, there are about three distinctive elements that I think make up what people call a good story, particularly in reference to Mass Effect but it can be applied in general as well.

These elements are:

1) The story lines themselves (missions, quests)

2) The worlds, environments where these stories unfold

3) The people or characters in the world that you encounter along your story lines

So let's go a little in-depth on this

A successful story to me relies on originality, does it keep you wanting to find out more, can the story surprise you, does it take you to a satisfying end and is it believable. Oh and is it worth replaying multiple times?

This is where a part of the issue lies. It has some original elements to it, however, the story never really surprise me, I wasn't on the edge of my seat wanting to find out more and some core elements in the story just didn't feel believable to me. Now, I know it's not reality but even within the universe of ME there has to be some logic that you can follow, even when taking some things with a grain of salt. The whole set up of the Andromeda Initiative for example was not believable to me.This is why Andromeda didn't do as well for me on the story side itself. Also there are so many open ends at the end of Andromeda that it doesn't feel satisfying to me, especially now we know that there won't be any DLC.

Then the Andromeda Galaxy doesn't feel like a real galaxy and there is a lack of diversity in local races to interact with. We have some left over droids from the Remnant, we have Kett that want to eat us on a genetic level and the only race we can really interact with are the Angarans. That's just very one-sided. Even if it's explained by the story, it doesn't feel right and therefore it's not as enjoyable as what we had in the ME trilogy before.

Now we did bring Asari. Well we have Peebee and ALL other Asari have the exact same character model. And we did bring some Salarians. Well basically the boss of the AI and the pilot are all we get from that. Of course there's the Turians of which we have a couple like Vetra, but most of the Turians look weird and have these odd neon-like colours. Oh and of course the Krogan. Now because we have a Krogan settlement, we do have at least a bit more interaction with them and of course Drack is a great companion.

Which leads me to the issue with companions. As much as I enjoy companions like Drack and Peebee, who are arguably the best-written and voiced companions, the rest are pretty poorly done. A lot of the voice acting is painful with odd silences and reactions that don't really go together and that means I also don't really care about them. In fact the only one I really think is cool is Drack. Peebee is well-done but a bit all over the place for me but that's just a personal preference.

But in general a lot of the conversation with npcs are just obviously rushed and not well put together. It sounds like the voice actors didn't get much time to do this and that the writing was also rushed and not checked very well.

Now the planets do generally look amazing but there's something that ME did that Andromeda doesn't do. None of the planets, although beautifully made feel at home or like a place I would want to be. Also the npcs and even your own character suffer dramatic loss of quality when zooming out even in 4k and a lot of the guards for example on the Nexus don't look graphically up to scratch and often have weird defensive stances when there is no need for it.

All of these elements when you want to experience a story, be in it and interact with it cause issues for the story itself. The story has a weak premise, even the pathfinder is a weak concept (mediocre human that becomes superhuman thanks to an AI and a role that doesn't make any sense). What happens in the story is not really making you want more (just going from point a to b) and I think the exploration part also detracts from the story itself and should've been done differently and the interactions with npc's are a lot less interesting or even cringeworthy and the worlds feel so out there that I don't feel like I would want to go there more often.

If none of this stuff bothers you that's cool. But this is stuff that the other games did. I cared about my character, I cared about many NPCs, the worlds were interesting and had their own story that you could relate to easily and there was a lot of diversity that gave it flavor. I think you might imagine that when people feel that they do not get that from this game, that they will be disappointed.

Compared to many other games the story might seem just fine, but when you enjoyed the depth of the original trilogy, Andromeda simply cannot even come close to that.

So not to convince you or change your mind, but perhaps this helps you or others understand a bit more why Andromeda was disappointing to many people and not just because of some bugs.

I am doing another run and I see again how poor some of the sidequests are. there are definitely some good ones mixed in with a lot of poor ones. so many people asking for help I am like the galaxy errandboy. my journal is absolutely full with so many quests I just dont care about. I've even tried to knock them out one at a time instead of picking up all the quests in the area I'm in. I have stopped picking up quests because they are just getting lost in the backlog i have.

regarding squadmates only Jaal, Peebee, Drack are really interesting to me. vetra is okay but kind of a drag. Liam is annoying more than any other mass effect character I have met. Cora is just blah. not interesting or fun to talk go. Even Kaiden who was such a mild toast character was more interesting get to know than these others here.

the other thing is there is no urgency for anything since it's an open world game. nothing feels that important like i need to do it right now. many if th quests just feel so bland.
