Zoo Keeper Career

Sims now have the opportunity to become a zoo keeper. This is an active career that requires sims to feed, muck out and teach new unplayable animals in the local zoo. Their level in the career affects which animals they get to work with. Being a zoo keeper is a dangerous job and sims may suffer all sorts of diseases. However, working with animals is a very rewarding career.

  • At level 1 in the career, sims are introduced to the aquarium where lots of exotic fish live. They must feed the fish and keep them in good health by keeping the water at the right temperature. They need to watch out for piranhas, as they could bite the keeper, resulting in injury!

  • At level 2, sims are given the task of looking after the insects. Among these are giant snails, stick insects and spiders. They must clean them out and feed them. They need to watch out though, or they may escape.

  • At level 3, keeps are introduced to the snakes. Large and small, the snakes are fairly dangerous with lots of venomous snakes on display. Sims must look after them and prevent the slimy creatures from escaping.

  • At level 4, the keeper is allowed to look after the birds such as owls, parrots and birds of prey. At this point, they can give talks and demonstrations using the birds of prey to an audience. Just watch they don't fly away!

  • At level 5, penguins are available. The penguins are cheeky and often splash the keeper, as well as playing with the broom and getting into the fish bucket. Keepers run 'penguin breakfast' which involved an interactive talk about the penguins to an audience while throwing fish into the pond for them to catch.

  • At level 6, sims can work with zebras and giraffes. These animals are fairly easy to look after and are in the same enclosure, but require a lot of mucking out! Sims may get kicked by a grumpy zebra or coo over a baby giraffe.

  • At level 7, keepers are introduced to meerkats. These pesky little creatures are a nightmare to keep in their enclosure as they keep digging out. Sims must find escaped meerkats and bring them home.

  • At level 8, sims are allowed to work with the sea lions and teach them tricks for the sea lion displays that happen twice a day. Warning: sims may get wet!

  • At level 9, sims work with lions. There is the risk that they may get eaten... If the sim is careless enough to leave the cage door open.

  • At level 10, sims can work with elephants. These can be taught tricks and taken for a stroll around the zoo.

A sub-option for the vet career is now the zoo vet career. Here, vets would go out to the zoo to treat large and endangered species.

Other sims

Other sims can now go to the zoo for a day out. There is one zoo lot and when selected, a map is displayed with the different enclosure options. Sims choose which they want to visit and are taken to that enclosure. To reopen the map to see other animals, click the map symbol. Demonstrations and talks happen at certain times in the day and sims are welcome to see them. The map displays the time a talk will take place and turn red when it's starting.

This is quite a short one, so please add ideas!
