best laptop for sims 4

★★ Novice

Hi!

I'm looking for a laptop to play sims 4 along with all the expansion packs and stuff. I have been looking up different laptops that have NVIDIA and the rest of the required specs to run the game but I would like a second opinion. I would greatly appreciate some options that are preferably less than $700. I enjoy the lightweight and sleek laptops. I also plan to use this laptop for school work. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate some input Standard smile

(I also would like to play Minecraft)

Some options I've found so far:

- Dell Inspiron 15 7000

- Acer aspire 5

- Acer Swift 3

@jjosierenee  Are you in the U.S.?  Several different countries use dollars, and the available laptops and their prices differ greatly.  It would also be easier if you linked the specific laptops you're considering.  The ones you mention come in a number of different configurations (and prices), so it's difficult to say what would be best.

The other question, at least in the $700 U.S. range, is whether you'd prefer a gaming laptop capable of running all Sims 4 packs on ultra graphics settings, or a more lightweight laptop that might only high settings.  There are plenty of options in either category; it's just a quetsion of your priorities.

Yes I’m in the U.S. I linked the options I found down below. If you know of any gaming laptops that are on the lighter side of things I would consider them. I just prefer a slimmer computer incase I have to carry it around. But I am open to getting a gaming laptop if you have any good recommendations.

Re: best laptop for sims 4

@jjosierenee  The laptop lines you linked aren't bad, but the best options, the ones with dedicated graphics cards, are either more expensive or are entirely unavailable.  If you get a laptop with an integrated card, you may not be able to play on more than medium settings.  But in the $700 range, there are lightweight laptops that should run all Sims 4 packs together on high settings, and a few gaming laptops that would handle ultra settings.

In terms of gaming laptops, there really aren't many that are also lightweight and inexpensive.  This MSI is 4.1 lbs though, which is about a pound lighter than a typical gaming laptop, and should run the game on ultra.  Its one drawback is its small hard drive.  While 256 GB is more than enough for Sims 4, Minecraft, lots of small apps, and plenty of text documents, it might not be enough if you decided to install other games as well.

Since you were looking at the Aspire line, this one is $700 and has the same specs as the MSI above except for a 512 GB hard drive.  It's heavier though, at 4.7 lbs.

On the very lightweight end, this Asus Zenbook is 2.7 lbs and has a graphics card that should handle all Sims 4 packs on high settings, although ultra is probably out of the question.  It also has a 256 GB hard drive.

This MSI Modern is the same weight and has more storage, but its graphics card is somewhat slower, maybe 25% in games.  It's also $50 cheaper.

If you're willing to go a bit over $700, these two have the same graphics card as the Zenbook and a 512 GB hard drive.  They're just under and a bit over 4 lbs, respectively.

The point is, you can find a good balance among performance, weight, storage, and price, however those details rank in your mind.  These are all good laptops; the best option is the one that best fits your needs.

If you have more questions, please feel free to ask.

Do you have any other laptop recommendations but this time I don’t care about weight, same price range $700 with some wiggly room to like $730, able to run both sims and Minecraft?

Re: best laptop for sims 4

@jjosierenee  This is by far the best option I found for $700; it's really a $900-ish computer under normal circumstances.  Its graphics card, and Nvidia 1660 ti, is around 40% faster for gaming than the 1650 in the other gaming laptops I linked, and it has a 512 GB hard drive, enough space for a number of large games.  As it happens, this model is also lightweight for a gaming laptop, coming in at a little over 4 lbs.

If there's something about that particular laptop you don't like, there are (heavier) options with an Nvidia 1650, which is still fast enough to run all current Sims 4 packs together on ultra settings.  These have only 256 GB storage, which isn't a lot, but it should still fit both Sims 4 and Minecraft.

They should all run Sims 4 pretty much the same, within a couple of percentage points, so the question is which you like best.  Beyond those, there's not much selection currently available, although this Acer ($700) with a 512 GB hard drive should be back in stock in a few weeks.

Like I said though, the first one is the best option, and probably better than you'd find for anything less than about $850 most of the time.
