Why can't I have my droid follow me at home?

Why oh why can we not have that options elsewhere than Batuu? I understand that there's probably no reason for them to slice any First Order control panels at home but what's the point for not having the options to engage follow protocol or upgrade the thing?! That's why I collected a bunch of scrap metal back in Batuu so I can take it home and work on my handiness skill by upgrading my lil droid at home.  Why disable those functions? I need more freedom to do whatever I want, not less, EA!
