Sims get nervous before exam WITHOUT FAIL

★★★ Novice

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.59.73.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Discover University, Get Famous, Seasons, City Living, Get Together, Get to Work, Parenthood, Vampires, Dine Out, Holiday celebration Pack
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have a Sim at university that has an upcoming final exam
What happens when the bug occurs? They get 2 uncomfortable moodlets, making them Very Uncomfortable
What do you expect to see? That sims who have studied for their exams to the point of being confident (getting the confident moodlet) to not get all panicky when they’re perfectly prepared.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Where’s the realism in every single sim getting nervous before an exam that they studied for? I get that getting nervous is common, but it’s so f*cking excessive. “Cram before exam” - how about no? My sim that has studied in advance should be fine and not a nervous wreck.

At least let me get a reward trait “exam proof” or something so I don’t have to put up with it. You know when the only time I’m nervous before or during an exam is? When I haven’t studied and I am unprepared. I hate that working hard is just pointless

@tszrivan I did find the tense moodlet and having to run to the bathroom before the exam (and even a couple of times missing the beginning of a final exam) very annoying as well, I must adit. I can see the use of it in-game and a certain amount of it makes sense for realism, but it can be frustrating.

I did find that one of the times it did seem to moderate my sim's performance on the exam (and had delayed him significantly), but the overall grade in the class was still an 'A' or  'A-', so I assumed it wasn't overly affected.

I began to watch for this by not 'cramming/studying' too much right before leaving for the exam, having all needs met, being calm, etc. Another helpful option is doing an activity to get them in the 'focused' moodlet to override/avoid the tense one before a final exam or presentation. It helped a lot to make these things my main goal in the couple of hours before the exam.

I'd recommend doing the studying before-hand. The 'before exam nerves' seem to be exacerbated by last-minute cramming, in my experience. Fortunately the 'tense' moodlet doesn't last through the entire exam or presentation, even if you cannot avoid it.

Hope this helps some.

@tszrivan  There is another way to get rid of any of the tense, sad, etc. buffs without cheats and I only mention it for others who may read this post since you don't have the pack that added it.  You have to have Realm of Magic and create a spellcaster.  One of the potions that can be made (sorry, I forgot the name atm) will reset your emotional state and all the buffs your sim has.  It is absolutely great for wiping out the tense buffs before an exam and it wipes out that really annoying buff that lasts 2 full days when someone you've met dies or you get a divorce.

@tszrivan@defuharugaming@SheriGR , and @CGrant56  if you have the Spa Day GP, then doing Yoga or meditating are also great ways to relieve stress.

I also can sometimes stack enough positive buffs to counteract the negative stress one before an exam.  Eating fresh produce helps, as does eating honey if you have Seasons.  They are super quick to do and if you have some other positive buffs, they can help push you over to being in a good mood. Angel

The potion is called 'Potion of Emotional Stability.' It works.

@tszrivan I always got nervous before exams whether I studied or not. Once I was taking the test I was always like, "Wait... I know this!" and stop worrying.

I can't get rid of the sadness before exams without cheats, I don't know how you do it. But in any case, this is one of my favorite games! Honestly, I understand my Sim, because I am always afraid of exams and very worried before passing them. I really need to graduate from University with good grades to get the job I need. Or I'm going to be an office clerk. Moreover, I have recently completed a Cisco course and I am preparing for difficult exams. But I realized that I couldn't prepare on my own, so I found a service (https://cciedump.spoto.net/) that helps students prepare for exams. I hope that I will succeed and get the desired certification to become a great specialist in the field of network administration. Please wish me luck, guys.

@christopherwatki, if your Sim is sad before the exam, you can use your phone to call the Sadness Hotline (its only available to sad Sims that are teen and older).Standard smile

If you Sim is stressed, then some of the other methods that we have discussed in this thread can help you.Angel  Depending on how much time you have left before the exam, and depending on which packs you have, you can either get rid of your stress entirely (like drinking the potion that was mentioned above if you have the Realm of Magic GP) , reduce it somewhat, or else cover it up with other strong buffs.  Doing quick things like eating fresh produce, brushing your teeth, or eating honey (if you have the Seasons EP) can give you enough positive buffs to override the existing stressed buff.   If your Sim has more time before the test they can take a shower to lessen the stress, or if you have the Spa Day GP you can have them learn meditation or yoga to help with stress.
