Proposed to another user's sim

So my sim is currently a fiance to another users sim, I didn't realise earlier the difference between users and NPCs. I have asked the person to have the sim move in with me but have not gotten any response. Since I obviously spent much time on this I am wondering how to fix it? I doubt the person is going to allow me to have their sim and will need to start fresh. Can I break off the engagement without wasting a bunch more time?

You should be able to just move on with your Sim, if not try some of the negative conversation options.
