Looking for a laptop for The Sims 4

★ Novice

Hi! I've been looking to get a new laptop to play The Sims 4 on without spending too much money. I have all of the expansions, 2 of the game packs, and 4 stuff packs, and would love to buy more and still have the game run well. Right now I'm looking at https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideapad-3-17-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-3700u-12gb-memory-1tb-hdd-128gb-...

I'm not very good with computers and know what will work, and I'm worried I'll buy the wrong one and regret it. The most I'll pay right now is probably up to $750, MAYBE $800 if I really think the laptop is for me. Any help and suggestions would be great!

@georgiastar03  That's not a bad laptop, but you could certainly do better for your money.  Even for $600, you could get a true gaming laptop, one that should run all current Sims 4 packs together on ultra graphics setttings.  An Nvidia 1650 may or may not be quite fast enough to run all future packs on ultra settings—we don't know how demanding those future packs will turn out to be—but a mix of high and ultra settings should always be fine.

For $600, either of these two laptops would be fine.  Their only drawback is their small hard drives, but 256 GB is still more than enough for all Sims 4 content plus however many small apps like browsers you'd want to install.  The processor in the Acer is a bit better for gaming, but that shouldn't make any difference to Sims 4.

If you want more storage and otherwise the same performance, you'd need to go up to $700; this Acer is the same model as the one above, except with a 512 GB SSD.

On the high end, this one is $780 and has a graphics card (the 1650 ti) that's a few percentage points faster than the one in the other laptops, plus a combination 256 GB SSD/1 TB HDD, which would help if you wanted to store a lot of data on the computer.

There are other options too if you happen not to like any of these, but I don't think they're as good: a $700 laptop with 256 GB storage, a $750 laptop with the same specs as the $700 one, that kind of thing.  If you'd like to see more laptops though, or if you have more questions in general, please feel free to ask.

Hi again! Sorry to bother, but I was just wondering if you had any other suggestions that were like the Lenovo Legion 5? It just sold out and so I figured I'd see if you had any other suggestions.

@georgiastar03  I'm not surprised the Lenovo sold out; it was an excellent price, and Walmart had a sale to go along with Amazon's Prime Day.  What is it about the Legion that you liked?  If it's the style or the Lenovo brand, this one might do:

The processor is a bit better for gaming, the graphics card is the same, and it has a single 512 GB drive, which is enough for most people's needs.  On the other hand, it's an Ideapad, not a Legion, so it's not the same model or built the same way.

If you let me know what you're looking for in particular, I can do a more thorough search.  But there aren't necessarily a lot of good options in your price range right now, so if I can't find what you're looking for, you may be better off waiting until the Black Friday sale prices start to show up.

@puzzlezaddictTotally agree with the idea of waiting for the Black Friday sale. It's only 1.5 months and you will be able to get a much better laptop for gaming, maybe even something from ASUS ROG series.
