Laptop recommendations

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I’m looking to get a new laptop that I can use for university but I also want to be able to play sims 4 on it. I have a budget of around £850 U.K.

I found this ( I get 15% student discount) so it works out at £850.

would it be any good? any other recommendations?

Thank you

Re: Laptop recommendations

@littleil  If you're looking for a lightweight laptop to carry around at school, the laptop you found is probably the best you're going to for that price.  The Nvidia MX350 is very new and significantly faster than the older MX250 it's replacing.  There aren't many laptops out yet with an MX350, and I didn't see any other models for under £1000.

The MX350 would run Sims 4, all packs included, on high graphics settings.  If you wanted a system that can handle ultra settings though, you'd need a true gaming laptop, one that would be heavier and bulkier than the Acer.  You'd save some money though.  For example, all these have the same graphics card, an Nvidia 1650, whichi is 200-300% faster than the MX350 in gaming (depending on the game and who's running the benchmark).

(the Asus store also has student discounts)

There are plenty of options in this range, if you're interested.  But they're all going to be similar, with larger chassis to accommodate the high-powered cooling a gaming laptop needs.

If you do get the Acer, make sure it can properly cool itself while you play: elevate it (put books under the corners or something), use a laptop tray, or get a cooling pad.  This laptop doesn't have the same cooling power as a gaming system, and it may overheat while you play Sims 4 if you're not careful.
