I Can't Make My Sim A Dad?

★★★ Novice

So, I've recreated my favorite Sims 2 household in anticipation for the upcoming University pack. I've had this household made since TS4 came out. At the time that I made these sims, I'm pretty sure I used "genetics" to create the daughters I so fondly remember.

However, while playing through their teen stages to hype myself up for the release of University and get re-aquainted with the family I noticed something - Marcus is no longer their father. This is odd to me because I'm sure I set them to be his children. I left the game and went back into CAS to check their relationship and sure enough - the sisters are only roommates with their "father"! I am unable to change their relationship to parents or father as you can see in this screenshot that "Father" is not an option. Scrolling also reveals no other options. Was it ever an option in the first place? What do I do about this without having to throw the 5 hours I've spent making these sims away?

@AxeEcliptica, do you happen to play with any Mods or Custom Content (CC)? Wondering

One thing i can thing off is maybe if you save the character that you want to be the daughter in the gallery and then add her back into the family in cas and if that doesnt work maybe make another temporary women and make her husband and wife with the other sim and then see if the child or father option is available#

Hope this helped Standard smile

@AxeEcliptica, when a player is having troubles in the game, we always ask if they use any Mods/CC , not just a certain type.Raised eyebrow   It is my understanding that Maxis Match is not supported by Maxis in a technical sense … it is merely an aesthetic label to ensure that your CC won't look out of place with actual Maxis content! Standard smile

Therefore, to either find what CC is causing problems , or to rule out your CC as the cause of your problems , you will need to do the following:

1) Move the Mods Folder to your desktop

2) Delete localthumbcache.package file in the game folder.

3) Fix you game in Origin by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list.  Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game.

4) Now, when you turn on your game again, it will create a new mods folder that will be empty.  Check to see if your game is now working without mods/CC.

5) Now you can try adding back items from your Mods folder one at a time checking your game each time to see which item is causing your game to not work properly.  If you have a lot of items, you can try the 50/50 Method.

The CC creators will usually update the CC items and Mods after these updates, so when you find out which one is the culprit, you can get the updated version from whoever made that item of CC in the first place.  You should try these steps anytime you have problems in your game to rule out CC/Mods problems.  It is the responsibility of the Mods/CC creators to update their items anytime EA releases a patch/update, and it is the responsibility of the people who use Mods/CC to make sure they are using the most recent version.

Now, if this doesn't work, there might be another problem with your game. Wondering It could be a bug that I'm not aware of but you would still need to check your CC first to rule it out! Angel I do know that others were having problems with the family tree, but I don't recall any problems with relationship status , at least not with a close relative like a father! Raised eyebrowDevil
