Cheats on Xbox not working

So I opened the cheat console and the onscreen keyboard did not show up. I don't know if it is supposed to, but whenever I enter the cheats, it says cheats not on, or invalid. I probably am just typing them wrong, but when I type them correctly, the cheats are never on. I could really appreciate if somebody could answer this soon, as I could start my sim town with what I need.
