Bumping this because it creates a useless feature. By default every creation includes the base game or at least one pack/expansion. So either we see the bare minimum and miss out the overwhelming majority of creations or we see all but cant benefit from only an unknown amount of the features except the walls. Its ludicrous.
Seriously. Why the plum would I want to look for stuff I cant use when I have a filter indicating I want to look for only certain creations that match my available content?

Honestly, this is a money grab. They want you to buy all the packs so their gallery works. I'm sorry but I don't have $500 to spend on a game to make the gallery work properly. It's actually turning me off to the game.

For someone who has some - but not all - of the Packs installed, finding content that is compatible with my game is a pain. If I deselect all the pack boxes, then sure, it shows me base-game-only content. Fair. But as soon as I click a box (say, Island Living), it'll show me all content that contains Island Living content, even if it also contains content from, say, Strangerville, which I do not have.
This makes zero sense to me. Shouldn't it be the other way around? If the only pack I have selected is "Island Living", shouldn't it filter out all content that contains content from packs that aren't Island Living?
It makes the "Show Owned" option from the selection box effectively worthless, as well, because it will show lots of content from packs I don't own. All it will do is filter out content that contains items from packs I don't own but not packs I do, when what I want is for it to filter out ALL items from packs I don't own, only showing content that is entirely from the packs I do own.
In other words, as my topic title suggests, the pack selection boxes should be blacklists when not checked, not whitelists when they are checked.
I can't be the only one who feels this way, right?

@HeroicJay You make excellent points. I have 'me too-ed' your post and appreciate your pointing this and explaining your reasons. Excellent feedback.
I personally think the filtering system could use some love, especially in the browser. In-game you have a bunch of filtering options, and in the browser the only one you have under 'advanced' is 'Maxis Curated', which is checked by default. To someone who doesn't know to go in and untick that option they will get very limited or no results in many searches.
Also, there have been many complaints about the need to tighten up the 'flag/report' system, as there has been some malicious use of it and not a great system of how to track this down. Like malicious tagging of some Maxis Faves. So if a searcher has ticked 'Hide Reported Content' in their Game Options, all of these 'reported' builds/households will be hidden from their gallery.

@HeroicJay, @SheriGR , @simmyfroggy , & @SqueamishNerd , yes the searches could really use some tuning! I don't need this option in the Gallery as much anymore, since I finally got caught up and got all the packs, but I remember trying to find houses in the Gallery when I didn't have certain packs and it was a real pain. I ended up downloading them but not playing them till I got all the right packs, which drove me nuts. Until I got all the packs, I gave up the searching with packs option!
And yes, the Maxis curated box is hidden and sometimes I forgot to un-check it . I was looking last month to see if my submission to a CAS Challenge was received, and if anyone liked it, but couldn't find the page for the life of me. I was getting extremely frustrated when I decided to see if Advanced Options would help, and then I realized that the Maxis Curated check mark was derailing my search! Once I got rid of that check mark, there was no problem finding the page and my Sim that I submitted! :eahigh_file: I guess for my last several searches prior to this I had actually wanted Maxis Curated stuff, so I forgot about the check mark. But I find it odd that this is the default.

@PugLove888About the checkboxes for showing all, only Maxis curated, or only followed people, it saves your choice from the last time. So Maxis curated is not by default. 😉 I think default is to show all, that’s what’s showing for me when I’ve been logged out.

@SqueamishNerd, thanks for the info! That makes more sense!
It still isn't' very intuitive , like @SheriGR said. I'm sure people who don't go to the Gallery that often have had that happen to them and they forgot (heck, I forgot and I go to the Gallery all the time! I just don't' always use the search function! )

Preaching to the choir, I've been annoyed with this ever since I got sims 4.
There have been numerous complaints about it on the official sims forum too: https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/categories but it seems to fall on deaf ears or get buried quick under the hundreds of other topics.
I really hope EA sees this and finally takes this into account. I hate to have to use global hashtags like #nostuffpacks or #gamepacksonly etc. it's incredibly limiting and I miss hundreds of creations of simmers who don't bother to use hashtags.
