Submission Transition Fail

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong with submissions buuuut every time I try to advance the submission, when I flick the left joystick in the indicated direction all break walls expand and I can't advance submissions. Using a submission specialist against a striker on easy beginning the submission with full stamina. I have to be doing something wrong because there's no way half the game would be this unreasonably difficult on easy. I've been trying for several hours over 3 or 4 days and can't get one. I should have at least gotten one on accident by now.

Maybe Your DS4 analogue stick lost by submission earlier.
I mean he is already done and need to replace with a new one.
Deceased sticks behaves like that what You described.

Check it by connecting to USB port of Your PC and open it all below:

...then try to move stick watching readings... if they are randomly inaccurate then my answer reach the point.
